Educational Goals for the Faculty of Agriculture

The educational goal for the Faculty of Agriculture is to develop students who can in the future assume the role of technical expert and leader in the industries of agriculture and forestry,
food, and other industries relating to food, shelter and agriculture. Students will be expected to gain a rich sense of humanity, great awareness, applied/practical skills, and the ability to work
on a global scale. The faculty of Agriculture will be providing practical education in the field by fully utilizing southern Kyushu’s various natural environments and biological resources.

Admission Policies

Characteristics of the ideal candidate the university seeks
The Faculty of Agriculture at Kagoshima University welcomes domestic and international students with the following strengths:

(1) Have a strong interest in the study of agriculture and forestry, food production, environmental preservation, and bioscience along with the motivation to play an active role in
these areas in the future.
(2) Have extensive natural science knowledge in addition to basic academic skills in a foreign language. Additionally, students are expected to be enthusiastic about acquiring the
abilities to think, judge and express themselves in order to fully utilize the student’s knowledge and skill during problem solving
(3) Have a strong interest in being educated through field-work and be eager to improve their practical skills in the study of agriculture.
(4) Have the interest and determination to contribute to the local and global society by playing an active role in the globalizing industrial society.

Diploma Policies

The undergraduate degree for the Faculty of Agriculture at Kagoshima University will be awarded to students who have acquired the required number of credits, and satisfied the
following requirements in line with the Faculty’s educational goals.

(1) Have mastered a wide-ranging degree of academic knowledge and logical thinking skills.
(2) Have mastered specialized knowledge in agriculture and forestry, food and bioscience-affiliated industries in addition to the ability to communicate smoothly in various
circumstances
(3) Are able to apply disciplinary methods and techniques to resolve problems related to local and international society in the study of agriculture and forestry in addition to food
and bioscience affiliated industries.
(4) Are able to conduct research projects related to agriculture and to summarize this into a research thesis.

Curriculum Policies

The Faculty of Agriculture at Kagoshima University aims to cultivate well-educated human resources with the knowledge and skills in the study of agriculture. We provide courses
which will help foster practical capabilities to be used in the field.

(1) For the first and second years, students are expected to acquire a broad basic knowledge by completing the general education curriculum (DP1). In addition, fundamental
education on agriculture will be provided as an introductory path into specialized subjects of agriculture (DP1, DP2). The third and fourth years will place an importance on
enrollment in subjects of specialized areas.
(2) From second to third year, educational courses will be separated, with each distinctive course aimed at deepening the student’s level of understanding (DP2). Furthermore, the
faculty’s signature field training, including experiments and practical work, are provided with the aim of developing student’s practical ability.
(3) From third to fourth year, students will be assigned to a specific laboratory. The students will gain an in-depth knowledge along with a problem solving ability while pursuing
research through close communication and mutual mentor-ship between colleagues and faculty members.
