History

Brief History of the Faculty

The faculty originated in Kagoshima College of Agriculture and Forestry, established in 1908. The first rector of the college was Dr. Tamari Kizou who was the first in Japan to be awarded a doctor’s degree in agriculture, and who was a pioneer in agricultural education. The total number of graduates for the past 109 years is more than 20,067 and the number of persons awarded a doctor’s degree at the United Graduate School is 915. Many of them have contributed greatly to society through their efforts for the advancement of agriculture, and in a wide variety of other fields.
